Classes

At Sugarbakers we offer a variety of great classes from beginner to advanced.  We offer these classes monthly so you have plenty of opportunities to come and have some fun with us!  Please call 865-689-6877 or 1-800-559-6877 if you have any questions about our classes.  Class fee must be paid at the time of registration.

Class Schedule for November & December 2013

FREE Christmas Candy Classes will be held on Saturday, November 23rd and Saturday, December 7th.  Both classes are 10am til Noon.  

Cake Classes will resume in February 2014.  


All classes are 4 or 5 consecutive weeks and cost $40.00 per person plus tax.
Supplies are not included.

CLASSES  

Adult Beginners Cake Decorating Class:  This class includes Leveling & Icing Cakes, Numbers and Uses of Tubes, Proper Handling of the Pastry Bag, Use of Color, Floral Stems, Leaves, Writing, Shell Borders, Roses & Rosebuds, Wild Roses, Daisies, Basket Weave, Booties, Diaper Pins, Rattles, Star Tipping and the Use of Edible Wafer Paper.  This class is 2 1/2 hours at each session for four consecutive weeks.  Class fee is $40 plus tax payable upon registration.  If you need the student kit, that is $25 plus tax.  

The Student Kit includes:  (1) 10" Pastry Bag, 1 Standard Coupler, 3 Disposable Bags, (1) #7 Flower Nail, Tips 4,8,17,48,104,126,352 and 233, Paint Brush, Tip Cleaning Brush.  The Student Kit is $25 plus tax.  If you have these items already, you won't need the Student Kit and you should bring these items with you.  

Items you need to bring from home for this class:  Items listed in the Student Kit, scissors, wax paper, Ziploc Bag, Dishcloth, Non-toxic black marker (sharpie), Toothpicks, Spatula, Extra Powdered Sugar and Scotch Tape.

Morning Adult Beginners Cake Decorating Class:  This class includes great baking tips, Making your own icing, use of decorating bags, properly cover cake boards, level a cake, fill a cake, smooth a cake, icing color techniques, use of decorating tips, variety of borders, floral stems & leaves, basket-weave technique, star tip technique, writing on cakes, piping and dots, icing flowers, piping gel transfers.  If time permits, we will also cover bows, clowns, booties, rattles & diaper pins as well as cupcake swirl.  Class fee is $40 plus tax payable upon registration.  If you need the student kit, that is $25 plus tax.  

The Student Kit includes:  (4) decorating bags, (4) couplers, #7 flower nail, paint brush, decorating tips 4, 10, 16, 21, 48, 74, 81, 104, 352 and a tip cleaning brush.  The kit is $25.00 plus tax if you don't have these items at home.  

Items you need to bring from home for this class:  Items listed in the Student Kit, Bath Towel, Dish cloth, wax paper, toothpicks, scissors, spatulas, scotch tape, powdered sugar and a non-toxic black marker (sharpie). 


This class is 2 1/2 hours for each session for four consecutive weeks.

Adult Advanced Cake Decorating Class :
 This class includes Petit Fours, Decorative Borders, Garland, Drape Garlands, Fleur-de-lis, Ruffle, Ribbon Swag & Drape, Lattice, Lace, String Work, Grape & Vine Work, Flowers including Pansy, Daffodil, Dogwood, Easter Lily, Petunia & Jonquil, Construction of tier cakes or wedding cakes.  Royal Icing will be covered in the 3rd class.  Class fee is $40 plus tax payable upon registration.  The Student Kit is $25 plus tax.  

The Student Kit includes:  (1) 10" Pastry Bag, (1) Standard Coupler, Disposable Bags, (1) #7 Flower Nail, Tips 2, 4, 8, 17, 48, 86 or 87, 104, 126, 352 and 233, Lily Nails, Paint Brush and Tip Cleaning Brush.  Student Kit is $25 plus Tax if you do not have these items at home to bring with you.

Items you need to bring from home for this class:  Scissors, Wax Paper, Ziploc Bag, Dishcloth, Toothpicks, Spatula, Extra Powdered Sugar, Scotch Tape and a non-toxic black marker (sharpie).  

This class is 2 1/2 hours for each session for four consecutive weeks.

Gumpaste Flowers Class:  This class will teach you how to create beautiful flowers for your cake using gumpaste. 

Equipment needed for this class include 2 lbs. Gum Paste, Wilton Flower Cutter Set, Flower Impression Set (green 2 piece), Gum Paste Tool Set, Art Brush, Florist Wire & Tape, Cel Pin, Cel Pad, 9" Rolling Pin, Roll & Cut Mat, Flower Formers (optional), Dusting Pouch, Pearl, Color and Petal Dusts, Edible Color Markers (optional), Gum Paste Flower Rack (optional but good idea) and a Pallet Knife.

Items you need to bring from home for this class:  Small container for water, Small amount of Crisco (1/4 cup or less), Corn Starch and (2) Gallon Ziplock Bags.

This class is $40.00 plus tax plus supplies.

Fondant 101:  This class will teach you how to color fondant, cover a cake with fondant and emboss, make ribbon border, make small flowers, make roses, monograms, butterflies and pearl border, plaques (flat pictures and scenes), Calla Lily, a sculpted 3-D decoration and fantasy flowers.

Equipment needed for this class include Roll & Cut Mat, Rolling Pin to roll out large amounts of fondant, Cel Pen to roll out small amounts of fondant and soften petals, Fondant Smoothers, Flower making tool kit, pallet knife, corn starch puff, cel pad, embossing sheet, edible pearls, super pearl dust, small 5 petal cutter, butterfly cutter, rose cutters, art brush, Cala Lily cutter, Fondant (enough to cover 4 cakes; amount depends on size of cakes), Gum Paste or Tylose, Icing colors (color and type of your choice) gel, paste or dry, fondant molds (optional), ribbon cutter (optional).

Items you need to bring from home for this class:  Corn Starch, 1/4 cup Crisco, Food grade glove, fold over sandwich bags, small cup for water, hat pin, ruler (if ribbon cutter is not purchased), (4) Cake boards 2" larger than size of cake, 1 small plastic covered container (1 cup volume or less)

A buttercream covered cake must be brought to the 1st class.  A fondant covered cake must be brought to the remaining classes.  All cakes should be placed on a cake board 2" larger than the cake. 

This class is $40.00 plus tax plus supplies.

Children's Beginner Buttercream Class:
 This class is specialized for your children ages 6 to 16.  Students will make a completed cake at the end of the semester using the techniques practiced in class.  

***Please come with buttercup icing made so we can jump right into decorating!*** (Buttercream icing is also available to purchase at Sugarbakers if you do not want to make it yourself).   

Equipment needed for this class include (12) disposable pastry bags, (2) standard couplers, Tips 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 48, 80, 104, 126, 352 & 233, Empty Egg Carton, Scissors, Scotch Tape, Ziploc Quart-size bag, Dish Cloth, Wax Paper, 6" icing spatula, straight, 9" icing spatula, straight.  Black and one other color choice of gel food coloring.  1 recipe decorating icing and 1 recipe royal icing.  

This class is $40.00 plus tax and supplies.
